Kulfi

It was tiring day at college. I reached home at 7:30 and went to bed in my jeans. I hadn't done that after 9th class. I had hoped that I won't be woken up till next morning. But like all my hopes shatter, this too did. Maa woke me up. She was wearing a saree. Why? Ugh, must be that loud party.

चलो बेटे, सब कोई इंतेज़ार कर रहा है।

Who was waiting for me? I don't even know the people who are throwing this party. I was finally roped in by promises of good food and kulfi. So I cleaned my face and like a drunk walked into party. I was in no mood to mix and talk. I saw my Maa and I went to her. And lo behold! I looked up in the sky and thanked God!

This was her. This must be her, right. Who else? I hadn't seen her till now. She was standing with everyone from our building.

After staring at her for a minute. I was brought back to reality.

जाओ प्रतीक, देखना खाना शुरू होगया क्या?

Oh, so I was wanted for this. I went to check on food. Seemed nice. Brought plates back for all who ordered. Took few selfies. She was in most of them. So was happy. And party ended. Well not before everyone had their kulfi. I again ran around and got everyone kulfi.

I saw she had a kulfi. I don't remember what conversation we did. I made her giggle a little and I gave the one kulfi I was holding to her. For me it was symbolic. I gave away my kulfi. Obviously normal people won't read that much into it.

Everyone started walking home. It was hundred or so steps. I knew, I had to do something before she again vanishes in her house and I don't see her. She was walking behind me, she looked funny holding two kulfi. Was she even able to eat single one of them? I don't know. Obviously, I can take a picture. That would be flirty right? Or I would have her one photo with me.  I had no idea what I was doing. I was still sleep deprived.  I had a nokia phone. So I asked for a bhaiya to give me his. He did. I turned around and took the photo. I am most proud of it. This photo was going to be the conversation starter. And sure it was.
